Introduction:
When Land Rover launched the Discovery Series I in 1989, it reshaped the 4×4 landscape forever. The goal was clear: to create a versatile, stylish, and highly capable off-roader that filled the gap between the rugged Defender and the luxurious Range Rover.
To design a fresh, modern, and functional cabin, Land Rover enlisted renowned British designer Sir Terence Conran (founder of Habitat and The Design Museum). The result was a masterclass in ‘Design with Purpose’, highlighted by the iconic turquoise-blue (Sonar Blue) interior that today stands as the Holy Grail for early Discovery collectors.
A Design Icon:
This 1990 example is the highly desirable 3-door body style, finished in classic Alpine White. The vibrant contrast between the crisp white exterior and the bold turquoise-blue interior delivers an unmistakable 1990s aesthetic.
Conran designed the cabin with clever, thoughtful details: from the ergonomic layout of the dashboard and storage compartments to the removable sunglasses holder and distinctive fabric upholstery. Early three-door models from the first two production years in this condition and color combination have become exceedingly rare, as many served as heavy-duty workhorses and did not survive the test of time.
This Dutch-registered Discovery remains in a authentic and all original condition, in running and driving condition.
