Barnfind
A barnfind is a classic or historic car that is discovered after having been stored, hidden away or left unused for a long period of time. The term comes from the familiar image of a car that has spent many years untouched in a barn, garage, workshop or other storage building.
A barnfind does not necessarily have to be found in an actual barn. The term generally refers to a car that has been out of sight for a long period and is discovered in remarkably original or unrestored condition. Such a car may retain its original paint, interior, engine, mechanical components and other details that have remained largely untouched throughout its history.
The historical interest of a barnfind is therefore not necessarily limited to the rarity of the car itself. Its condition and history can provide valuable information about how the car was originally built, used and maintained. For this reason, it is not always desirable to restore a barnfind completely to as-new condition.
A barnfind should, however, be carefully assessed before being returned to the road. Long-term storage can cause problems with the brakes, fuel system, engine, cooling system, tyres, rubber components and electrical system. Heritage Cars can assist with inspecting, assessing and recommissioning a barnfind, working with the owner to determine which components should be preserved, repaired or restored.
