Coachbuilt Car

A coachbuilt car is a vehicle whose body was built separately from the chassis or technical platform by a coachbuilder. This was a common method of building unique cars, especially before World War II. Customers could often combine a chassis from an automaker with a body that was specially designed and built to their specifications, often by a specialized coachbuilder. As a result, some models exist in multiple body styles and even as one-of-a-kind examples. For a coachbuilt car, the coachbuilder, the body, its history, and its originality are therefore often just as important as the car’s technical specifications, make, or model.
