Restomod

A restomod is a classic car that is restored and, at the same time, modified with modern technology. The word is a combination of “restoration” and “modification.” The goal is usually to preserve the classic car’s distinctive appearance and character while improving its drivability, reliability, safety, or comfort.

For example, a restomod may feature a more modern engine, improved brakes, modified suspension, a different transmission, electronic ignition, modern air conditioning, or an upgraded electrical system. The extent to which a car is modified can vary greatly.

A restomod is therefore different from a concours restoration or a fully original restoration. In a traditional restoration, the emphasis is on returning the car to a historically accurate or original condition. In a restomod, on the other hand, the focus is on combining classic aesthetics with modern practicality.

Incidentally, a restomod does not have to be conspicuously modified. In a carefully executed project, modern technical improvements can be integrated in such a way that they are largely invisible, while the character of the original car is preserved.
