Volumex refers to the innovative forced-induction system developed by Lancia in the early 1980s to enhance the performance of its sports models. Unlike a conventional turbocharger, which relies on exhaust gases and is often subject to turbo lag, the Volumex system utilizes a mechanically driven Roots-type supercharger.

Driven directly by the engine’s crankshaft, it delivers instantaneous throttle response and a substantial boost in torque right from low engine speeds. Refined by Abarth, the Volumex system was featured on iconic models such as the Lancia Beta Coupé and HPE Volumex, the 037 Stradale, and the legendary Rally 037.
