Wherever possible, the original component is retained and restored. Only when this is not technically possible or responsible do we look for a suitable replacement. Preserving value goes beyond the use of original parts. The way in which a car is restored is equally important. A classic car body can feature different construction methods, welding techniques and sheet-metal work from those used on modern vehicles. Modern repair methods are therefore not automatically the best solution.
When restoring a classic car with value preservation in mind, we consider its original construction and the way the car was built at the time. Wherever possible, original techniques and materials are used, or we work with specialists who have experience restoring this particular type of vehicle.

The use of original parts
Parts for exclusive classic cars can be extremely difficult to find. Manufacturers stopped producing many components decades ago. This does not mean that a modern replacement or non-original solution should automatically be used.

In some cases, restoring the existing component is even preferable to replacing it. This allows as much of the original car as possible to be retained.

Previous restorations are also carefully assessed
When restoring a classic car, it is not only the recent damage that matters. During dismantling or restoration, it may become apparent that previous work was not carried out to the appropriate standards.
A car may, for example, have previously been repaired using large amounts of filler, incorrectly executed bodywork or layers of paint applied over earlier repairs.
As long as these issues remain hidden, the car may appear to be in excellent condition. Only once components are dismantled or the paint is removed does it become clear what lies beneath the surface.
When previous repairs are found to affect the quality, originality or value of the car, this is taken into account in the restoration plan.
Sometimes, preserving the value of a classic car means correcting a previous repair and carrying out the work again properly.
Paintwork with originality in mind
Paintwork is an important part of the character and value of a classic car. The original colour may have changed over several decades due to exposure to sunlight and normal use. In addition, the car may have been repainted at some point in its history. Simply finding the correct factory colour code is therefore not always enough.
The original colour, level of gloss and overall appearance of the car need to be considered as a whole.
With an exclusive classic, it can therefore sometimes be preferable to repaint larger sections, or even the entire car, rather than simply repainting the damaged panel. This creates a consistent result that better matches the quality and character of the vehicle.
