Cyclecar

A cyclecar is a small, lightweight and relatively simple motor vehicle that became popular between around 1910 and the early 1920s. Cyclecars were developed as an affordable alternative to larger cars and can be seen as something of a cross between a motorcycle and a car.

Cyclecars were generally designed with low weight and simple mechanical construction in mind. Many were powered by one or two-cylinder engines, often using technology derived from motorcycles. Some cyclecars accommodated two people, with the occupants sometimes seated one behind the other.

Cyclecars played an interesting role in the early development of the motor car. Their low weight and relatively simple construction made them more affordable and accessible to a wider public. As small, practical cars became increasingly affordable, the cyclecar gradually disappeared from the market.

Today, original cyclecars are highly interesting historic vehicles. Their age, lightweight construction and often unusual mechanical solutions mean that maintaining, restoring and recommissioning them requires specific knowledge of early automotive engineering.
