A reunion with the canary-yellow Matra Djet 6 at Tour Auto
A few years ago, we sold and shipped this striking Matra Djet 6 to the United States through Bring a Trailer. This spring, the car made a remarkable journey back to Europe by air freight to take part in the legendary Tour Auto, and successfully completed the event in style.
In the summer of 2024, this canary-yellow Matra Djet was sold by Heritage Cars to an American-French enthusiast. In 2025, the new owner decided to enter the car in the 2026 edition of Tour Auto, one of the most prestigious historic motoring events in the world.
Matra has a rich history connected to the original Tour de France Automobile. Revived in 1992 as Tour Auto, the modern event is reserved for historically significant cars and combines approximately 2,500 kilometres of public roads with circuit races and hill climbs over five intense days. The selection process is highly demanding, making participation itself a testament to a car’s historical importance.
Chatting about the history of the Matra Djet 6
Naturally, Geert Kistemaker, owner of Heritage Cars, was delighted to see the Matra again and attended the ceremonial start at the magnificent Grand Palais in Paris. Joost, the Dutch former owner who had painstakingly restored the car, also happened to be in France near the Tour Auto route. This created the perfect opportunity to introduce the previous and current owners to one another at the Circuit de Magny-Cours, where one of the regularity stages took place.
Between sessions on track, there was plenty of time to exchange stories, memories, and experiences surrounding this very special Matra. Seeing the car reunited with both its former and current custodians made the occasion even more meaningful.
Most importantly, the new owner completed the entire Tour Auto without any issues, a fantastic achievement for both driver and machine.
